Administration of Meat Food Products Order
The
Directorate implements the Meat Food Products Order, 1973 with a view to
enforce hygienic standards and to exercise quality control over the production
of meat food products for human consumption. The MFPO manufacturers are
accredited based on sourcing of raw meat supplies. It has Veterinary Biological
Control Laboratories (VBCLs) to support field inspection and analysis of meat
food products samples. The MFPO manufacturers operating under the Order (as on
1.11.2003) are:

The Directorate has been declared as Competent Authority for issue of animal health certificates for export of animal casings to European Union & Other Countries. Besides, DMI is one of the 3 agencies for export quality control of Raw Meat (Chilled /Frozen) as declared by the Union Ministry Of Commerce under xport (Quality Control & Inspection) Act,1963.
